In solidarity with the people of Catalonia

Hamza Yalçin

I am writing in full international solidarity with the people of Catalonia. We have seen with great sorrow the attacks against the people of Catalonia on the referendum day and afterwards. It is imperative that the police brutality be accounted for and the responsible police forces should be punished. All free unity should be based on mutual respect for the right to separation. Forced unity is unique to dictatorship regimes. The right of the people of Catalonia to determine their future must be respected. It is also a violation of human rights to take the Catalan leaders into the criminal prison. The whole world knows that they are political prisoners that the Spanish government holds as political hostage. The absence of political prisoner status in Spain is a very important question. The Catalan leaders who peacefully defended their cause must be released immediately.
